Pork Pelmeni: A Classic for Russian Dumplings

Introduction: Now back in 2017 Daa! Dumplings Pelmeni was part of an awesome labor day weekend with great vendor at Urbanspace in NYC. Some of you might recall those days, and possibly having tried Pelmeni the first time with us. Since our retail store in not around anymore, here's a simple pork recipe for you to make at home, which was one of our most popular recipes.

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:

    • In a large bowl, mix the flour, water, egg, and salt until a smooth dough forms. Knead for a few minutes until elastic, then cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Filling:

    • In a bowl, combine the ground pork, chopped onion, minced garlic, parsley, black pepper, and salt. Mix until well combined.
  3. Assemble the Pelmeni:

    • Roll out the dough on a floured surface until thin. Cut the dough into 3-inch circles using a round cutter or glass.
    • Place a small spoonful of the pork filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape, then pinch the edges to seal. Pinch the two ends together to form a ring, if desired.
  4. Cook the Pelmeni:

    • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Gently drop the pelmeni into the boiling water. Cook for 8-10 minutes, or until they float to the top and are cooked through.
  5. Serve:

    • Remove the pelmeni with a slotted spoon and serve hot with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of fresh dill.

Conclusion: These savory pork pelmeni offer a taste of traditional Russian cuisine that’s perfect for any occasion.
